A first for polymer and fiber

In May, the Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering awarded bachelor’s degrees to its first graduates – Jessica Dewberry of Alexander City, Ala., Arthur Hinton of Ozark, Ala., Brandon Carthon of Albany, Ga., Gold Darr of Clinton Tenn., and Weston Wilson of Auburn. The department offers the opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s degree while focusing on a polymer or fiber option. The polymer option emphasizes polymer characterization, processing and chemistry, while the fiber option focuses on mechanics and composite materials. The department also offers a master’s degree, as well as a doctoral degree in integrated textile and apparel science in conjunction with Auburn’s Department of Consumer Affairs. Faculty members are currently developing a doctoral program solely in polymer and fiber engineering.
